Tuesday night’s county council meeting in Baltimore County, Md., has strong implications for the area’s tanning salon owners.
In a nearly unanimous vote, the group enacted legislation requiring those under the age of 18 to have written permission from a parent in order to tan. A second measure calls for increased signage – following specifications for the size of the sign and its lettering – the messaging of which states a connection between skin cancer and ultraviolet radiation (based on “medical studies”).
Salon owners have less than two months to comply before facing potential penalties of $100 daily for infractions.
