The New Orleans-based Planet Beach Contempo Spa chain, which already has more than 380 locations—primarily in the United States—is planning to expand in Europe. Almost all of its current locations are franchises.
Unlike many franchisors, Planet Beach allows multiple franchisees within a market; however, the company prefers to sell at least a "five-pack" within a region (five stores to one owner). This is because franchise owners usually prefer to have exclusive territory to have control of the brand, which has made its mark by offering several tanning options (with and without UV) and a variety of automated spa services.
