Sun Protection Market Shows No Sign of Slowing
Posted on: 02/19/2010

A report from research publisher Global Industry Analysts Inc. projects the sun care products market will be a $5.6 billion business within the next five years. In that, products aimed at sun protection have the largest global representation.

One factor contributing to the growth is the widespread popularity of specialty products, such as those geared toward babies, children, everyday use and anti-aging. Increased messaging to consumers about sun protection also boosts sales of self-tanners and sun-protection products.

As more consumers gravitate toward these products, manufacturers continue to explore product traits they hope will be attractive: scents, glitter, vitamin content, water and insect resistance and the like. After-sun formulations are also in demand, particularly those that boast stress-soothing, anti-aging or overall skincare health benefits.

Europe and the U.S. lead the marketplace based on the populations seeking these products, as well as in the number of manufacturers responding.

The research report profiles some of the competitive market leaders, including, “Avon Products Inc., Clarins Limited, Estée Lauder Group, Energizer Holdings Inc., Johnson & Johnson, Neutrogena Corp, L'Oreal S.A., Beiersdorf AG, Schering-Plough Corporation/Merck, and Shiseido Co. Ltd., among others.”
