A newspaper in England claims Cancer Research U.K. is revisiting its position of midday UV sun avoidance. One medical scientist considers deficiencies of vitamin D and ultraviolet light to be among the country’s greatest health concerns, particularly considering vitamin D’s role in bone health.
Critics claim that SunSmart, Cancer Research U.K.’s main vehicle for delivering a skin-cancer-prevention advertising message, has been too heavily slanted against any UV exposure. They seek better-rounded marketing that highlights the importance of vitamin D and the sun’s role in helping stimulate the body’s production of it.
Cancer Research U.K. has not confirmed the alleged modifications to its messaging.
