American professional indoor tanning franchise TWI Franchising Inc. (dba tanworld) is pleased to announce its commitment to supporting the environment with the unveiling of a franchise-wide recycling program that not only includes tanning lamps but plastic lotion bottles as well. Thousands of lamps and plastic bottles are used every year in the 62 tanworld locations throughout the U.S.
Cheri Cosgrove, president and CEO of TWI Franchising, is enthusiastic about the program. “We fully support our franchisees’ efforts to help out our environment and will contribute in any way we can. This is the kick-off to the program, it’s not just a ‘one and done’ program. More of our franchisees are joining the program every week. We’re even having a franchise-wide contest on total lotion bottles recycled to jump start the program,” she reports.
Max Recone, president and CEO of MR International, lotion supplier to tanworld franchisees, also endorses tanworld’s efforts. “Our products are PETE-type plastic, which means that they are 98 percent recyclable,” Recone adds. “We are thrilled that tanworld has started this type of program and hope it becomes the standard in the indoor tanning industry.”
John Fell, owner of tanworld franchises in Mankato, St. Cloud and Rochester, Minn.; and Mason City, Iowa, was the first to initiate this TWI program. “Since we recycle as much as possible at home, it only made sense that we make the same effort at all of our tanworld locations,” Fell shares. “These plastic lotion and water bottles join our current effort that includes cardboard, paper and tanning lamps. We’re getting lotion bottles daily from our customers that they’ve purchased not only from us but outside locations. Every little bit helps.”
Fell's customers have been very receptive to the program. Customer Wendy Webber is but one example. “It’s great that tanworld is doing this to help the environment. I’m making sure that all of my friends that tan here drop their bottles off,” she affirms.
